Platform Guide

What each section of the platform does.

Overview — Executive summary of your current month: total cost, run rate forecast, open anomalies, and provider breakdown. Your starting point every morning.
Dashboard — Full cost view with daily spend chart (30D/3M/6M/YTD), KPI cards, monthly trend, top services by cost, optimization signals, and provider scorecards.
Cost Intelligence — Drill into your costs by category: Cloud infrastructure, AI & ML services, SaaS tools, and Data Warehouses. Expand by provider, account, and service.
Insights — Anomalies — Automatic detection of unusual spending patterns. Each anomaly shows previous vs current cost, percentage change, and financial impact. Mark as reviewed once investigated.
Insights — Cost Explorer — Hierarchical drill-down: Provider → Region → Account → Service → Resource. Search by provider, service, or resource name.
AI Assistant — Ask questions about your cloud costs in plain language. Examples: "What are my top cost drivers this month?", "Which services increased most vs last month?", "Where can I save money?" Available once a provider is connected.
Credits & Billing — Track cloud credits applied to your account, view billing by provider, and configure budget alerts to be notified when spend approaches your limits.
Cost Estimator — Cross-provider cost comparison based on your actual workload. Reads your last 30 days of spend, estimates equivalent usage on AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI, and shows where you could save. How it works →
Action Hub — AI-generated waste detection recommendations. The agent detects idle EC2 instances, stopped VMs with attached storage, unassociated IPs, unattached volumes, and old snapshots. Review each recommendation and Approve to execute or Dismiss to skip.
Quick Wins — Fast savings opportunities prioritized by financial impact: rightsizing suggestions, idle resource alerts, storage optimization, and network cost reduction. No agent installation required for most items.
Budget & Forecast — Set monthly or quarterly budgets per provider or account. View cost projections for the current period based on your spending trend.
Integrations — Connect cloud providers and notification channels. Slack and Microsoft Teams webhooks send alerts for anomalies, trial expiration, budget exceeded, and agent actions.
Monitoring — View user activity, session history, and last login timestamps for all users in your organization.
Settings — AI Agent — Configure the automated waste detection agent. Set CPU thresholds, lookback period, EC2 stopped minimum age, dismissed recommendation TTL, and target regions. Enable Auto-approve only if you want actions executed without manual review.
Settings — Profile — View your account information and role.
Settings — Support — Contact the Vision4Ops team at support@vision4ops.com.
Settings — Deactivation — Request account deactivation. Our team will contact you within 24 hours to confirm.

Cost Estimator — How the comparison works

The Cost Estimator compares what you actually spend on your current cloud provider against what the equivalent workload would cost on AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI — using each provider's public list prices.

1
We read your actual spend
We aggregate your last 30 days of usage charges by service name, grouping them into comparable categories: Compute, Object Storage, and Block Storage.
2
We estimate usage quantity
For each category we apply a representative reference price (e.g., $0.023/GB-month for AWS S3 Standard). Dividing your actual spend by that price gives us the estimated quantity — for example, ~40 GB/month of object storage or ~1,800 hours/month of compute.
3
We price that same quantity on every other provider
We multiply the estimated quantity by the reference price of each alternative provider and show the difference as a percentage — so you can see at a glance where that workload would be cheaper or more expensive.

What we compare today

Compute — EC2, Azure VMs, GCP VMs, OCI Compute. We estimate equivalent hours/month and compare on-demand list prices across providers.
Object Storage — S3, Azure Blob, GCP Cloud Storage, OCI Object Storage. We estimate GB/month at standard tier and compare storage rates.
Block Storage — EBS, Azure Managed Disks, OCI Block Volumes, GCP Persistent Disk. We estimate GB provisioned and compare SSD rates.

What we don't compare (and why)

Serverless / Functions — pricing depends on number of invocations and execution duration, not a fixed unit that can be linearly translated across providers.
Databases — requires knowing the engine type, instance size, storage tier, and license model. A meaningful comparison without these details would be misleading.
API Gateway — per-request pricing varies significantly by provider and API type (REST, HTTP, WebSocket).
CDN & Data Transfer — prices depend on geographic region of origin/destination, traffic volume tiers, and egress peering agreements.
Important: All estimates use public on-demand list prices as a reference. They do not reflect Reserved Instance discounts, Savings Plans, Committed Use Discounts, Spot pricing, enterprise agreements, or egress/support costs. Use this comparison as a directional signal — not a migration quote.

AI Agent — How it works

The Vision4Ops AI Agent runs daily at 08:00 UTC and scans your connected AWS accounts for cloud waste. It detects:

  • Idle EC2 instances (CPU avg below threshold over the lookback period)
  • Stopped EC2 instances with attached EBS volumes
  • Unassociated Elastic IPs
  • Unattached EBS volumes
  • Old EBS snapshots (older than the configured threshold)
  • Idle NAT Gateways (traffic below threshold)
  • Idle Load Balancers (no healthy targets)
The agent only takes action on resources tagged vision4ops:managed=true. Resources without this tag generate informational alerts only.

All recommendations require your approval unless Auto-approve is enabled — use with caution.

Notifications & Alerts

Connect Slack or Teams in Integrations → Apps & Alerts to receive:

  • Anomaly alerts when unusual spend is detected
  • Trial expiration reminders (7, 3, and 1 day before expiry)
  • Budget exceeded alerts when spend crosses your configured threshold
  • Agent action notifications when recommendations are approved and executed

FAQ

How long until I see data after connecting?

Up to 24 hours for the first ingestion. The AI Agent runs its first detection the following morning at 08:00 UTC.

What does the AI Agent do automatically?

By default, nothing — it only detects and recommends. It executes actions only if you enable Auto-approve in Settings → AI Agent, or you manually approve each recommendation in Action Hub.

How do I invite team members?

Go to Settings → New User. Enter their email and they will receive an invitation with a link to set their password.

Can I connect multiple cloud accounts?

Yes — the number of accounts depends on your plan. Go to Integrations to add more.

What is the FinOps Maturity Score?

A 0-100% composite score (shown on the Overview page) made of three weighted pillars based on the FinOps Foundation framework:

INFORM (40%) — quality of your cost visibility. 25 points each for: (1) a cloud provider connected with active data, (2) weekly cost report enabled, (3) at least one cost anomaly detected in the last 30 days, and (4) visiting your Dashboard in the last 7 days. The number of providers connected does not matter — a single well-configured provider can reach 100% on INFORM.

OPTIMIZE (35%) — how much of your AI Agent's recent activity (last 90 days) you've acted on: percentage of recommendations that are approved or completed out of the total detected.

OPERATE (25%) — operational governance: AI Agent active (+40), budget configured in Budget & Forecast (+30), Slack/Teams alerts connected (+20), and at least one detected resource tagged for automated action (+10).

How do I improve my Savings Potential?

Go to Action Hub and approve pending recommendations. Each executed action contributes to your Savings Realized and improves your OPTIMIZE score.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your data is retained for 48 hours after deactivation, then permanently deleted.
